The Benefits of Being Outdoors During Recovery

Have you ever walked outside at the end of a long and stressful day and taken a deep breath of fresh air? Perhaps you close your eyes for just a moment and focus on the sounds around you? If the answer is yes, you have taken the first healthy step toward learning how to process certain stressful situations. Here are some examples of the benefits associated with spending time outdoors during your recovery:

Vitamin D exposure

Do you feel better and more relaxed once you have spent time in the sun? This isn’t just a happy coincidence. The reality is that the sun is a natural source of Vitamin D, which is critical in maintaining your body’s overall health. It’s recommended that you take at least 20 minutes and spend some time outside in the sun. You will likely notice that by the time you walk back inside, you will feel a sense of revitalization and focus you may not have had just a few minutes ago.

Better concentration

Going outside to work, exercise, or even just to relax can help you to improve your concentration. Changing the environment around you for some time can help you see things differently from how you previously saw them. It can also serve as inspiration when you feel like you are stuck inside your own head.

Ease depression

When you’re in addiction treatment, you will begin to learn some of the telltale signs of depression. If you feel these emotions creeping in, going to the beach and surrounding yourself with all of the beauty that comes with it can be an excellent way to snap yourself out of these dark thoughts.

Great opportunity to exercise

Being active and moving your body as often as possible can contribute to a healthy lifestyle and help your addiction recovery. If you decide to partner with Muse Treatment, we will provide you with more details on the benefits of exercise. However, when you go to the beach, you have the opportunity to test yourself physically. For example, going for a run (or even a walk) through the sand can prove to be a challenging task. Also, there is nothing quite like going for a swim in the waves of the ocean. Regardless of which type of exercise you prefer, you will undoubtedly experience a unique challenge when working out at the beach.

Alamitos Beach is a little over a half-hour away from Anaheim. While you may spend some time in the car getting to this beach, the drive will certainly be worth it as the white beaches begin to come into view. Not only will you have the opportunity just to enjoy the peace that comes along with being on the beach, but there is also an abundance of fun activities within close proximity of the beach. You can even opt to go biking or pick up a game of volleyball. Almost anything that you need you can rent at a location along the beach, which makes it an excellent option for a spur-of-the-moment trip.

Addiction Treatment and Recovery at Muse Treatment Center

At Muse Treatment Center, we understand the importance of providing our clients with the holistic level of care needed to tackle their addiction and overcome it once and for all. When you initially reach out to our intake team, we will take you through a series of questions and a screening process that will allow us to learn more about you, the severity of your addiction, and the goals you have for yourself. We offer personalized treatment and recovery plans that may include some or all of the following features:

Detox

Drug detox is a critical component of your overall recovery because it provides the initial basis for your physical and psychological healing. Within the first few hours of the last time that you took your drug or drink of choice, you will begin to experience cravings for that substance. If you do not fulfill those cravings, your body will become somewhat of a tailspin both physically and psychologically. At this point, you will begin to experience serious withdrawal symptoms that will make it all but impossible for you to care for yourself for at least seven days. During this team, you will be under the care of trained medical professionals who can provide you with the care you need during this critical stage of your recovery journey.

Inpatient treatment

Inpatient treatment gives you the chance to change the people, places, and things around you throughout your recovery journey. During your time in an inpatient program, you will have the opportunity to live on our beautiful campus with the peace of mind that you’re living in a sober and safe environment.

Outpatient treatment

Some people simply cannot put a pause on their work, school, or other personal responsibilities. If you fall into this category, then you would be the perfect candidate for an outpatient program. Outpatient programs are more flexible and allow you to develop a treatment plan around your unique schedule. This will give you ample time to see to your responsibilities while still receiving addiction treatment and even go to the beach if you would like to.

If you have more questions about what you can expect when you come to treatment, we encourage you to reach out to our intake team today at (800) 426-1818 and learn more.
