At Muse Treatment we believe that alcohol and drug addiction effects the entire family.  Support from friends and family is a crucial part of addiction treatment and is quintessential to the journey of recovery.  Family weekend helps friends and families to reunite in a safe and supportive environment, understand the recovery process, and begin to heal the family dynamic.

While the individual suffering from substance abuse or a mental illness is in a treatment facility receiving therapy, friends and family members do not often seek therapy for themselves.  The damage and destruction caused by substance abuse and mental illness is deep seeded and needs to be addressed for those who lived through the disease.  Family therapy helps all members of the family to learn new communication skills, set healthy boundaries, and learn how not to enable the member of the family with the mental illness or addiction.

Family weekend allows for family members and friends to stay engaged in recovery related activities with their loved one, increasing success in recovery.  Family Weekend at Muse Treatment is a wonderful way to encourage families to work on healing together, and living in recovery together, in new and healthy ways.

Muse is so much more than I ever expected. Their cutting edge work into treatment from all directions, applying some of the latest research findings by professionals with so many years of experience is so very reassuring. This application is combined with a staff who obviously thinks of their work as so much more than a job. The model being built by New Start I believe will become the gold standard for addiction treatment. I can’t make enough positive statements about New Start. They are totally awesome!

Dear Shelby,

Thank you so much for giving my husband and I the opportunity to attend the Family Weekend on February 13 – 15, 2015. I had been so anxious about our son living so far away, where he was living, the type of facility he was involved with, who his therapists were, and of course, how he was really doing. We were delighted how the weekend went for us as a family. We were glad to be there and our son was equally glad we came. We saw an enormous growth in him since being at Muse. We realized how much work he has been doing both with his individual therapist and his groups. Our son was much more confident, assertive, and totally present in what was going on the entire weekend. He was very engaging in our group sessions, totally focused and very interested in what others had to say. He truly cared about the people in the room, and in some instances, even wanted to take care of them. We had very positive sessions with his therapist and feel that they were matched perfectly. I believe that our son is getting very valuable feedback during these sessions.

Yes, we would come to another family weekend, and yes we would recommend the family weekend to others. My husband and I left the facility feeling very good, more at peace and assured that our son was in the right place and taking good care of himself. More importantly, he wants to stay in California and continue working on himself. I believe that our son is committed to recovery which is very comforting to us as parents.

Hoping things continue on the upswing for everyone.
