We’re grateful they’re grateful.
If you are looking for a place to really try to change your life, Muse is a great place! The staff were all so in tune with what I was going through. If I ever had a problem, or was feeling like using, I could go to them and they'd talk to me. It didn’t matter what time of the day or night it was. I had never had people who cared about me so much that weren’t family. I still stay in touch with people I went through the house with, we go to meetings and go surfing and other things I never did when I was loaded. It’s a great life, and I really never thought I would be so happy.
I’ve been through 5 other detox programs and was pretty sure none of them would ever work. I decided to give it one more try before just resigning to being a junky the rest of my life. I found Muse and I have to say I am pretty surprised. I have over 8 months clean and it’s more time than I’ve had the last 11 years. All the groups were great, and the neuro-feedback was something I haven’t seen anywhere else. I still see my therapist and I am so happy. I am very grateful to Muse!
I never wanted to go to treatment. I always thought I could quit on my own. I tried myself dozens of times but always went back. I could stay quit for a day or two but never more. I didn’t know what to do. I thought I would die and never thought I could live without my drug. When I finally realized that I needed some help I was terrified. The staff at Muse really knew what I was going through. They had been through it themselves and showed me the way. I have never been sober this long in my life, and if I keep doing what I’m doing, what they taught me, I think I’ll stay sober.
I stayed at Muse Sober Living for two months. When I arrived I was very emotionally and spiritually sick. My drug and alcohol dependence nearly took my life on several occasions. The structure of being surrounded by others in recovery, having chores, going to meetings and never knowing when I would get tested helped me to stay sober long enough to let the program work me. Today I am grateful to say I am clean and sober for just under a year now. My life today, inside and out, is 180 degrees away in the right direction.

Globally, alcohol is one of the most dangerous substances, yet this is uncommon knowledge as it is one of the most socially acceptable substances to partake in. Alcohol is advertised as fun, full of pretty people doing awesome things, or classy people sipping fancy cocktails and tasting wines. It is promoted as something that can make you someone else, and for many of us this is attractive. Let loose, relax, have fun, do crazy things you wouldn’t normally do – but all too often the reality of drinking alcohol is much different. Sure it can be fun, but it can also lead to many mistakes and behaviors we aren’t always the most proud of, and physically, it takes a toll on us. Hangovers aren’t fun and too much alcohol can result in vomiting, memory loss, inhibition, accidents, alcohol poisoning, and even death. The reality of alcohol use is quite different.
And for someone struggling with an alcohol use disorder, what is portrayed in advertisements seems even farther off. Frequent, heavy use quickly causes dependency and high levels of tolerance causing more alcohol needed regularly and in abundance to produce an effect and just to function. Alcohol loses its magic and becomes something needed just to get through the day, to keep the shaking and nausea at bay. A vicious cycle begins that makes quitting difficult and dangerous.
Recent studies have shown that over 14.5 million people struggle with alcoholism or alcohol use dependency. And, alcohol-related deaths are the third highest form of preventable deaths in the US, behind obesity and smoking. Addictive disorders can cause problems with work, friends, family, and wreak havoc on your physical and mental health.
But, there is hope. Alcohol addiction is a treatable mental disease. Many people use alcohol to self-medicate and treat undiagnosed traumas and mental health issues called co-occurring disorders. If these disorders do not get treated along with the addiction, then relapse is almost imminent. Here, at Muse Treatment in Burbank, we treat more than just addiction – we take a holistic approach to your recovery. We are the top-rated alcohol detox program for this reason and many others.
We offer a medical detox program to reduce your symptoms using medications distributed and monitored by our licensed professionals. Recurrent, heavy alcohol use can cause severe withdrawal symptoms and medication can mitigate these. During our medical detox, we oversee your withdrawal symptoms to ensure a safe and effective detox. After that, we offer many different inpatient and outpatient treatment programs to ensure the probability of successful long-term recovery. We follow that with sober living programs, after care, and a solid relapse prevention plan tailored just for you. Our staff is waiting to hear from you, so pick up the phone and let us tell you more about how we can help you get the life you deserve.
To understand what alcohol detox is like, it is important to understand what alcohol does to the body. The more alcohol is used, the higher a tolerance is built, resulting in more alcohol needed to produce the same effect. Sudden stoppage then leads to withdrawal due to the fact that the body now relies on alcohol to function. Not only are the withdrawal symptoms hard to tolerate, but they can also be extremely dangerous.
Alcohol stimulates the body’s GABA receptors which are what produce that relaxed feeling when drinking. When alcohol is no longer introduced, glutamate overcompensates and produces the opposite effect – anxiety and other such symptoms. Mild symptoms of withdrawal include headache, shakiness, insomnia, anxiety, sweating, and nausea. More severe symptoms are seizures, hallucinations, fever, confusion, delusions – and they can be life-threatening. We administer medications to help alleviate these symptoms through our medical detox program while we closely monitor you, ready to handle any complications that may arise. Our goal is that no one should suffer.
Expect to be made as comfortable as possible. Our facility is designed to be welcoming, peaceful, and retreat-like. We want you to feel safe and calm, at ease with your surroundings. Our staff is kind, caring, and experts in their fields. You will have round-the-clock care and a 24-hour addictions RN always there for you. You will never be alone. We recognize that this stage is frightening and it’s hard to know what to expect, but we will be with you every step of the way.
We are medically licensed to prescribe benzodiazepines, barbiturates, and other such OTC medications. We will monitor your fluids and diet so that your body is equipped to handle the detox. And most importantly, we will make sure that your detox is the least overwhelming and safe. Our goal is to lessen your symptoms so that detox passes with the least amount of turmoil.
How long detox lasts depends on the individual – how long you used alcohol for and how often, essentially your level of alcohol dependency. On average, most detox symptoms will pass after five days. The first symptoms will begin to appear 6 to 12 hours after your last drink. These include stomach pain, headache, insomnia, and nausea. At 12 to 48 hours, more severe symptoms will begin to appear, and those can include seizures and hallucinations. The most severe symptoms may present themselves around days 2 to 3 and those are called the delirium tremens or the DTs. The DTs require medical assistance and are extremely serious.
By day five, you should start feeling better and ready to begin your journey to a successful long-term recovery. This includes our holistic rehab program and individualised behavioral therapy plan. Our goal is to address the root cause of your alcohol addiction so that long-term recovery is possible. Muse Treatment in Burbank also offers long-term aftercare and sober living programs for you to take advantage of. We make sure you never feel alone and are always supported on your journey of healing.
