Addiction is a multifaceted issue that affects people from all backgrounds, age groups, genders, and races. To be addicted to a substance does not reflect badly on you or your history, it can happen to anybody. Some substances like alcohol are legally available to purchase in a store, and others, like Xanax or Oxycodone, are prescribed to people by their doctors every day. It is no wonder people easily develop addictions when these things are readily available in medicine cabinets and liquor stores.

At Muse Addiction Treatment Center, we know that every person seeking help to detox and rehabilitate has their own story, history, fears, and health conditions, and need an individual, customized plan to move them down the path of sobriety. We take a trauma-informed approach to our treatment, and our staff is knowledgeable and professional. Many of our staff members are in recovery themselves, and they remember what it was like to be in your position. They truly want to help you with empathy and kindness.

There is usually more than meets the eye when it comes to substance abuse and addiction. People with mental illnesses may be trying to self-medicate, someone with back issues may have begun taking more pain medication than what was prescribed because their prescribed dose was not working anymore. Somebody from an abusive household may just feel they need a way to escape. At Muse Treatment, we treat behavioral issues and offer psychological treatments so we can get to the root of addiction, and help you deal with underlying causes, while we are dealing with the physical symptoms.

Why Choose Muse?

You should choose Muse Treatment because it is the top-rated drug and alcohol rehab for residents of Los Alamitos, California. We value you as a person, giving you the respect you deserve. We use trauma-informed practices, because we know that everybody has a unique history that may involve bad experiences with medical and psychological doctors or other professionals in the past. We take your preferences and needs into account when you enter our facility. We want you to feel safe, informed, and heard through every step of your detox and rehab.

Our staff is highly trained and professional, and they truly care about helping you. We have clinical care available onsite 24 hours a day, with registered nurses onsite daily to make sure everything is going to plan. Our head nurse is a certified addictions RN.

The food is healthy and fresh, with snacks like cookies and chips available around the clock. Special dietary needs can easily be accommodated. The rooms are home-like and comfortable, with TVs and full-size beds. Pets are allowed, and smoking is allowed in designated areas or outside.

At Muse Treatment, we screen each person as they enter our facility, before detox and rehab, to find out more about them. We need to know about your history with drugs and alcohol, and to find out if there are any co-occurring addictions or mental/physical health problems that would require a dual diagnosis treatment. If there is more than one issue going on, we can get to the root of everything at once, which will greatly increase your success in and after rehab. After our assessment, we will be able to plan a realistic treatment plan that is designed specifically for you, and will best work for your individual needs.

Therapies and treatments we offer include:

Medical Assisted Treatment (MAT)

Medical assisted treatment is clinical assistance given during detox. When withdrawal symptoms become dangerous, uncomfortable, or problematic, we can administer FDA-approved medications at prescription doses to help you deal with your symptoms and keep you safe.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive behavioral therapy is a type of therapy that deconstructs destructive behavior, and helps you modify unhelpful thought patterns and behaviors that can lead to substance relapse. You will find the underlying reasons behind substance abuse and find alternate ways of dealing with issues that are healthier and safer.

Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy (REBT)

Rational emotive behavioral therapy focuses on the patient’s perspective on an issue. It challenges the patient’s thoughts and responses to stress and triggers and teaches them to replace irrational actions or self-destructive behaviors with logical, positive responses. REBT educates patients on living a better and more fulfilling life without substance abuse.

Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)

Dialectical behavioral therapy helps the patient understand their social and emotional reasons behind substance abuse and replace negative emotions and behaviors with positive ones. DBT can help identify self-destructive behaviors and work to change your responses to stress and triggers.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

EMDR therapy is an approach that reconnects the patient with images, thoughts, emotions, and body sensations associated with trauma in a safe and measured way. The belief is that the brain is “stuck” due to trauma, preventing the brain from proper processing and storage of the memory. EMDR helps the patient reprocess the incident until it is no longer psychologically disturbing.

Experiential Therapy

In experiential therapy, the patient is assisted in re-processing traumatic experiences from the past while they are experiencing a neutral or pleasant, new experience. Some of the expressive tools used are art, roleplaying and animal care, but the therapy is tailored to each individual client, so the experience is something they will enjoy. By re-experiencing the repressed negative emotions from the past while doing something positive, emotional responses can be reframed.

Trauma-Informed Therapy

Trauma informed therapy is the idea that healthcare workers need to have the full picture of a person’s life situation, treat them with respect and understanding, and know that people’s past experiences can affect how they feel and perceive things like medical care or being in a vulnerable position. Trauma-informed practices can improve patient engagement and treatment outcomes because the provider knows the signs of trauma and can ensure the patient feels safe and heard.

Family Therapy

Family therapy is a type of counselling that helps family members resolve conflicts and improve their communication. It is used to help with situations involving anger, grief, and stress, and can help family members understand one another better.

Group Therapy

Group therapy may seem intimidating, but it is very helpful for many people. This is when a group of people gather together to discuss and work through issues. Most of the time, the group or the meeting has a theme (alcoholism, people affected by drug abuse, etc) and the discussions have to stay on topic. They are overseen by one or more therapists. Talking and listening to others can put your issues into perspective, and it can be beneficial to see how others deal with their problems. Groups can be used as sounding boards, or to find a solution to a problem through brainstorming. Group therapy can promote social skills, and you can meet others in a similar situation to you, so you don’t feel alone in your recovery.

One-on-one Therapy

One-on-one therapy is also known as psychotherapy or counselling. This is when a patient gets together with a psychologist or counsellor one-on-one to discuss issues, learn strategies to stop unwanted behaviors and thoughts, and learn skills to deal with stress and improve quality of life. It can help patients develop healthy coping skills and is useful for those feeling hopeless, overwhelmed, or unhappy.

Dual Diagnosis

At Client, we use dual diagnosis treatment when a patient shows signs of having co-occurring disorders like a mental health disorder alongside a substance use disorder. We recognize that co-occurring disorders impact one another and the treatment of one can exacerbate the other. They need to be treated at the same time, in the same facility, by the same treatment team, using integrated treatment.

Vocational Training

We offer vocational training, for those people who need extra help entering the workforce due to a substance use disorder becoming a barrier to employment. Many people with addictions have never held a regular job, because for many reasons, employment has not been a focus in their life. Working and self-sufficiency are important to be able to live an independent, self-directed life after rehab. It can also give you opportunities to develop your social skills, meet new friends, and give you structure and purpose to your days.

Life-Skills Training

At Muse Treatment we also have life-skills training courses. This is where you can learn skills needed to navigate the challenges of life, handle problems, make decisions, and take responsibility. You can learn self-management, social skills, cleaning, and drug resistance skills. Life skills are important to maintaining a normal routine and schedule once you leave residential rehab. You need them to be able to live independently and take care of your body with food, exercise, and hygiene.

Aftercare / Relapse Prevention

As a patient, you will be encouraged to take all the time you need in aftercare treatment, as you gain the skills and confidence to succeed out in the world. Resurgence can provide referrals to trusted partners who run sober living homes, and after treatment, there is a network of alumni to help Muse Treatments remain connected to a supportive sober community.

We have payment plans available for those who need it, and we accept most forms of insurance. Mental health and addictions services are covered under insurance as essential health services.

We are here to help. Contact us and we will walk you through the process, answer any questions you might have, and we can book a time for you to come by and see the facility if you like. At Muse, your trust and comfort is important to us and we want to make sure you feel fully informed and comfortable as you enter our program.

Alcohol Detox Program

Detoxing from alcohol can be a serious, intensive process.

Our goal is for nobody to have to suffer during detox. We make it as pain-free as possible by using a treatment called Medically Assisted Therapy (MAT). This is a type of treatment that is overseen by clinical staff 24 hours a day, so you will stay in our detox facility as it happens.

During MAT, we will monitor your health, symptoms, and reactions. When they are needed, we can provide FDA-approved medications at prescription doses to help with any withdrawal symptoms that come up.

Withdrawal symptoms for alcohol can include:

  • Anxiety and mood swings
  • Tremors
  • Uncontrollable sweating
  • Confusion or brain fog
  • Irritability
  • Nightmares
  • Difficulty sleeping
  • Headache
  • Increased heart rate

There is also the risk of delirium tremens (DTs) if the patient has been drinking heavily, drinking over a long period of time, or has other health issues or addictions present. Dts are dangerous symptoms that include confusion and agitation, hallucinations, high fever, and seizures. It can escalate to become life-threatening quickly, which is why alcohol detox should be handled by health care professionals.

During MAT, the medications given will get you through your detox safely. We also bring counsellors in early in the process because this can be an emotional time, and we don’t want you to feel alone in your detox.

Drug Detox Program

Almost every substance that creates a physical dependence will require a detox period before entering a rehab program. Every drug has a different detox and withdrawal period, but some of the symptoms you may experience include:

  •       Depression
  •       Anxiety
  •       Tremors
  •       Serious drug cravings
  •       Body aches
  •       Fatigue
  •       Nausea
  •       Confusion
  •       Agitation
  •       Flu-like symptoms

Some of the more dangerous symptoms can include suicidal ideation and other dangerous physical symptoms that can escalate to become life threatening if not monitored by health professionals.

To combat these withdrawal symptoms, you may be given medications like sleep aids, antidepressants, medication to satisfy drug cravings, and other prescription medicine that will get you through this period of time as comfortably as possible, while keeping you safe. The medication provided will not get you high and will not create a new addiction.

MAT combats the biological side of addiction, but at Muse, we also integrate counseling and behavioral therapies early to begin working on the behavioral components of addiction, while helping you overcome the physical withdrawal symptoms and working through any emotions or fears that come with stopped drug use.

Because our treatments focus on the whole patient, rather than just their physical symptoms, MAT at Muse is proven to improve survival rates, and future ability to live a self-directed and independent life long after detox and rehab is over, without the use of drugs or alcohol.

There is also the option to go through a social detox, which has all the benefits of staying in a Muse detox facility, except no medications are given to keep you comfortable. If you are a good candidate and there are no dangerous health risks in your specific case, you have the choice to do so. We will still monitor your health and provide strong support and counselling through a social detox.

Whichever method you choose, at Muse, we will help you through your drug detox in the way that best suits you as an individual. We strive to provide a safe, welcoming, and caring environment, with a plan that is personalized to you.

Alcohol Rehab For Residents Of Los Alamitos

After your medically assisted detox program is completed, you can move into the Muse Treatment inpatient rehabilitation facility. This is where we take the information from our intake interview and screening to plan an individualized program of behavioral therapy, counselling, activities, and rest that will best suit you, your rehab goals, and get you ready to live your best life without drinking.

At Muse Treatment, our strongly recommended minimum stay in residential rehab is 30 days, and we also have longer 60- and 90-day programs, which are recommended for those with a history of relapse, or those who may require extra counselling or life-skills training.

At Muse, we offer therapy options so you can find some that fit your goals and personality. We can tailor the program to work on specific mental illnesses or trauma, as well as set you up with life skills coaching, vocational training, and group programs like the traditional 12-step program, or another evidence-based group like SMART recovery. All of these treatments combined will help you get to the root of your addiction, rather than just putting a band-aid over the problem, and this will lead to a long-term, sustained recovery.

Drug Rehab For Residents Of Los Alamitos

Drug rehab for residents of Los Alamitos takes place in one of Muse’s residential rehab facilities after detox.

Drug rehab begins with our intake interview, where we get to know you, and what you want to get out of rehab. We learn about co-occurring addictions, health and psychological issues, and what you are like as a person. This “whole-patient” approach to rehabilitation, along with a customized program designed to suit each patient’s unique lifestyle and personality, will get to the root of the addiction, and help each patient learn to live drug-free in a healthy and productive way.

Some of the therapies we provide are

  • Medical Assisted Treatment (MAT)
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
  • Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy (REBT)
  • Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)
  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
  • Experiential Therapy

Along with healing from drug use and trauma through our behavioral therapy options, strategies for long-term recovery success are learned. These can be through vocational training, social interactions in our community-based facility, or life-skills training courses, where you will learn how to deal with issues of self-management, living on your own, and taking care of your body with nutritional food, hygiene, and exercise.

After rehab, you can enter an aftercare program like outpatient treatment, attend groups, or join our alumni community for sober gatherings and friendships. At Muse, our drug rehab is not just to get you detoxed and back out on the streets, we are here to help you throughout your recovery in any way we can.

How Much Does Rehab Cost?

At Muse, we can customize a treatment plan to fit into any budget, with a payment plan for our cash clients. We are here to help you and will work with you to ensure anybody who needs our help will be able to get it.

Rehab is also covered by insurance. At Muse Treatment, we accept most PPO insurances, but every provider is different, so make sure you explore which treatments, medications, and therapies are specifically covered by your policy before entering rehab.

How Long is Detox?

Every person has a different history with health issues and drug or alcohol use, and everybody has their own unique personality, goals, and budget. The length of detox depends on these factors, as well as the type of drug you are detoxing from, the length of use, the amount you were using, and how you were using the drug. Every drug affects the body differently. With these factors in mind, Muse Treatment can create a detox program that will work for your specific case.

Withdrawal symptoms generally begin to show up within two to six hours after your last use with headaches, nausea, or body aches. More serious symptoms may show up, with a peak at around 72 hours. After that, you will gradually feel better until you are ready to enter rehab. The severity and timeline of detox really depends on your individual health and history, but in the majority of the cases, a medically assisted treatment will help you get through it as painlessly and quickly as possible. It will greatly reduce the risk of relapsing and keep you safe through the process.

Detoxing from drugs can take anywhere from five days to a few weeks, but at Muse, we are here for you every step of the way, not only getting you off the drugs, but supporting you emotionally and psychologically as well.

How Long is Rehab?

At Muse we have options for you when you decide to enter into our rehab program. We have a short-term stay, which is 30 days long. This is the minimum recommended time for rehab. For those who want a longer period of rest or support, or for those with a history of relapse, we at Muse recommend our long-term 60- or 90-day treatments. We encourage all our clients to remain in treatment for as long as they need to ensure everybody feels comfortable and truly ready to transition into our outpatient program.

30-Day Rehab (Short-Term Rehab)

The minimum recommended stay in residential rehab after detox is 30 days. This is the most crucial time in recovery, where you can reprogram your brain away from self-destructive behaviors, get to know yourself in new ways, and be separated from the usual triggers and stresses that happen at home in your everyday life for long enough to form new habits and find new, sober ways to live.

Long-Term Rehab (60-90 Days)

Staying in residential rehab is extremely beneficial when overcoming addiction. You will stay in our serene and welcoming environment, surrounded by a community of sober peers, and professional staff who will provide support in a structured way.

Your days will be full, with therapy appointments, meetings, activities, and rest. We host game nights and movie nights, as well as off site excursions for if you want a change of scenery or to socialize, but at Muse, inpatient rehab is about working on yourself and your recovery. The longer you remain in our treatment facilities, the lower the risk of relapse.

Couples Rehab

Couples who use drugs or alcohol frequently may find themselves going down a path they did not anticipate. They may be fighting more, experiencing money trouble, losing friends, or getting into legal trouble. Worst of all, the relationship may be suffering.

Some couples find that using drugs or alcohol is the only activity they enjoy doing together, or it is the only way to be able to talk about their relationship, deal with stress, or express love physically. Some couples begin feeling an emotional distance from their partner that was not there before, due to drug use.

If this sounds like a problem you have noticed between you and your significant other, couples rehab treatment may be the answer. At Muse, we offer couples rehab, so you and your partner can enter rehab together, work on yourselves and your sobriety, and work on the health of your relationship at the same time.

Couples therapy can help you avoid damaging the relationship further. You can learn how to help each other through addiction or relapses, keep each other on track, and grow together. Being each other’s support system and learning about triggers, codependency, and enabling behaviors will give you a higher level of relationship satisfaction and help both of you abstain from drugs and alcohol for the long run.

Muse’s alcohol and drug rehab will give both of you the best chance to thrive individually, and together as a couple. We treat the substance abuse, but also include trauma, dual diagnosis, co-occurring addictions and have individual and couples therapy, for a full-patient treatment plan. You will learn new ways to interact, communicate, and increase the positivity in your relationship. Options like 12-step programs, SMART recovery groups, and our outpatient programs will continue to support you long after inpatient rehab is done. You may also want to get to know our alumni group, for additional peer support and friendship.

Sobriety as a couple is a big goal, but working together can improve your relationship, and result in a long-lasting recovery for both of you.

Pet-Friendly Rehab

Pets are an important part of our everyday lives and trying to decide what to do with your animal friend while you go into rehab can be difficult. Muse, California is a pet-friendly rehab facility. We know that not everybody has a friend or family member who will take their animal. You can bring your pet with you while you detox and rehabilitate, so you don’t have to worry about finding pet care or worry that they aren’t being taken care of properly.

Animals can lower heart rates and blood pressure, and can provide companionship, emotional support, and unconditional love, which can help with depression and stress. Pets provide a sense of purpose and improve feelings of self-worth. Our facilities at Muse are pet-friendly so you won’t have to think about leaving your pet behind.

Does My Insurance Have Coverage for Rehab?

Rehabilitation from drugs and alcohol is covered by insurance. Under the Affordable Care Act and the Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act, mental health and addiction services count as essential health benefits. It is a good idea to speak with your insurance provider to determine how much of your addiction treatment is covered, as each insurance plan covers different types and amounts of medications and therapies.
