Heroin Rehab in Mar Vista, California

Many people addicted to heroin started out using prescription medication like OxyContin and Vicodin. Once dependent on opioids, people may find that heroin is less expensive, and sometimes easier to obtain. Heroin is extremely addictive, and unfortunately an increasingly large number of people die from overdoses every year.

The first step to heroin rehab is to go through a detox period. Depending on the length of addiction, how the drug was used, the amount of drug used each time, and the amount of drugs taken, withdrawal can take around a week to pass. During this time, you may experience moderate to severe withdrawal symptoms like nausea, abdominal pain, agitation, depression, nervousness, and cravings for drugs.

The length of heroin withdrawal is different for every person. It is a short-acting opioid, so symptoms can start within 6 to 12 hours of the last dose. They will peak around 72 hours, and last for up to ten days. People who have gone through a prior opioid withdrawal, or people with mental illnesses may need additional support. The act of withdrawing from heroin is not life threatening, but the complications that come with the medical and psychological symptoms can be.

Medically assisted treatment (MAT) is the recommended method for a safe and successful withdrawal period. At Muse Treatment we offer MAT, along with counselling, to help your body and brain recover from heroin dependence, while simultaneously taking care of your mental health. You may receive an FDA-approved, prescription amount of medication to satisfy cravings and stop withdrawal symptoms. You will be medically supervised 24 hours a day for safety. Under clinical conditions, and at the right amounts, these medications will not create a new addiction, and they will help reduce the risk of relapse.

During detox you will begin a therapy and counselling program to help with your emotional and mental healing. This will continue into one of our 30-, 60- or 90-day inpatient rehabilitation programs, followed by an outpatient and alumni program, which can last for as long as you want it to. We want you to feel ready in every way to take on life in the outside world without the use of drugs or alcohol. At Muse Treatment, you will gain new coping strategies and new supportive sober connections, and a new and healthy outlook on life.

Drug Rehab

When rehabilitating from any drug that creates a physical dependence, detox is necessary. A medically assisted treatment (MAT) is the recommended, most comfortable, and safe way to detox. At Muse Treatment, during MAT, clinical staff monitor your progress 24 hours a day, administering medication to manage withdrawal symptoms. Therapy and counseling are introduced early to help with emotional support to achieve the best results. Our goal is that nobody should suffer.

After detox, it is recommended to remain in our inpatient program, to gain the physical and mental health, skills and coping mechanisms, and the confidence to live your best sober life. Everybody overcoming addiction is different, so we offer various therapies, programs, and activities, to suit your individual goals and needs on your journey to recovery. We have a community-oriented facility with structured daily living, and you will be in a new environment where you can focus on yourself and your recovery without the distractions and stresses of everyday life.

Once you are ready to move on, we offer multiple outpatient options, and can recommend affiliated sober living homes. There is support every step of the way, that will set the foundation for a long-term, sustained recovery.

Meth Rehab

Crystal meth (methamphetamine) is a powerful man-made stimulant drug that can be made with easily obtained ingredients. It is also known as ice, shards, glass, and crank, and is snorted or smoked.

A meth comedown is not like withdrawal. It is caused by neurotransmitter imbalances in the brain, toxins in the body, and exhaustion. You may feel sad, hopeless or depressed, weak and tired, and have muscle pain, insomnia, and headaches. This can last for a few days, and is why people go on meth binges (also known as tweaking) . Tweaking can be deadly or cause long-term bodily harm to the user.

The timeline for methamphetamine withdrawal is about 20 days. It begins within 24 hours from the last drug use, peaks within 7-10 days, then steadily declines. The symptoms are mainly psychological and emotional, and do not seem to be severe on the body like heroin or alcohol is. You can expect feelings of lethargy and sleepiness, increased appetite, jitteriness, and dry mouth. Depression during this time is common, and some people have psychotic symptoms like hallucinations or paranoia. Every person is different, so at Muse Treatment we use a dual diagnosis to determine what your physical and mental health needs are during your stay.

During a medically assisted detox, there is access to 24-hour care, consistent therapeutic support, and medications given at prescription doses to mitigate discomfort, including antidepressants and SSRIs, medications for sleep regulation, or antipsychotics.

Once detox is completed, it is recommended to enter one of our 30-, 60- or 90-day inpatient rehabilitation programs, where you can continue working on your sobriety. The facilities are comfortable, and community oriented. You will be surrounded by non-judgmental staff, and peers going through the same thing as you in a healthy and sober environment, working on sobriety and recovery together and individually through a variety of therapies, programs, and activities.

After inpatient rehabilitation, there are different options for outpatient programs and sober living homes available, depending on your needs. Our network of alumni is also there as a community of supportive, sober peers, so you will never feel alone in your recovery.

Benefits of Sober Living With Muse

At Muse, we offer outpatient recovery programs for those who have completed our inpatient addiction treatment, as well as for people who cannot leave their responsibilities like work or family, and require a more flexible addiction treatment while remaining at home.

Our outpatient options include:

  • Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) – Recommended for those transitioning back to life after inpatient rehab, this program gives the opportunity to use new recovery skills in the real world, while receiving strong support, therapy, and guidance from expert staff.
  • Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) – This is the best option for those requiring flexibility to continue going to work, school, or attending to other responsibilities. It is a flexible plan, where you retain a daily normal routine, and continue working on sobriety with group and individual therapy.
  • Virtual Intensive Outpatient Program (VIOP) – Available at some Muse locations, this is IOP conducted on a virtual telehealth platform. This option is best for those who had to travel for residential treatment, who have returned home and want to continue with outpatient treatment. Meetings and therapy are conducted online.

These treatments are offered with, or without housing. If preferred, we can refer you to an affiliated sober living home. In a sober home, you can reinforce the lessons and strategies learned in rehab by returning to work or school but living in a structured environment that holds you accountable for your actions. Residents will often have to actively participate in recovery programs, drug testing, and house rules like cleaning, curfews, and on-time fee payments. You will feel less isolated, and will have continued support in a sober home, while developing real-world coping strategies.

Everybody’s recovery is different, and at Muse, we will help guide you in a way that fits your unique requirements. Outpatient programs and sober living homes are options made to help you find a new, sober way to relate to your surroundings and live a happy and healthy life.
